1902 – 2012

At a glance….

1902 Ware & District Choral Society formed by group of thirty local enthusiasts led by local church organist, Nelson Govier
1934 Govier succeeded by Douglas Rogers who directs choir until outbreak of war in 1939.
1945 Choir reformed by the Govier family, with just forty members.
1948 Robert Vivian transforms choir to perform major oratorios with soloist of national repute. Membership grows to more than a hundred.
1974 Robert Vivian retires and Julian Williamson continues tradition of top class performances with professional orchestra and soloists.
1994 20 Year celebration for Julian Williamson – Dream of Gerontius
1999 Double Celebration Concert. Centenary of Ware Drill Hall and the 25th anniversary of Julian Williamson as the Society’s conductor – Verdi Reqiuem.
2002 Centenary Celebration Concert: One hundred years of Ware Choral Society
2004 The 30th anniversary season of conductor Julian Williamson and accopianist Barbara Manning.
2005 Celebratory Gala Concert 11th June
2009 Celebration Concert. 35th anniversary of Julian Williamson as the Society’s conductor – Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius
2012 Celebration Concert. 110th year from foundation of choir – Haydn’s Creation
